Tokyo Goannas Football Club - Est. 1991
The Tokyo Goannas F.C. is a non-profit organization created to advance Australian Football and Australian sporting culture in Japan. The Tokyo Goannas have been proud to contribute to the expansion of AFL in Japan and to be a member of the JAFL’s A-League.
The Japan AFL, split into a top flight A-League and development Go-League, now boasts 11 teams and is one of the world's most successful AFL competitions for local participation.
Since the club’s foundation, the Goannas have been a focus of the sporting and social scene for many Australians working in, studying or visiting Japan.
Our Tokyo community includes past greats and foundation members, a playing group ranging from age 20 to 45, and many Japanese and international members interested in finding out more about the game and Australia.
Playing AFL is Japan is an experience many of our members will carry with them for life. The team is not exclusive to Aussies in Japan and we count Americans, Canadians, Europeans, a few pesky Irish and many Japanese locals on our roster. Training is held at Futakotamagawa, a ten minute train ride from Shibuya, and monthly games are played at a number of Tokyo venues. All are welcome!
We have regular formal social events, as well as watching the footy on the big screen at Hobgoblin. It's a very friendly setting for making friends and connections in Tokyo.
If you are interested in sponsoring the Goannas, please get in touch as well. We have a huge network in Tokyo and a great relationship with all our sponsors - we can offer testimonials for the work we put in to making sure it's a win-win.
Contact the club on our Facebook or by email at [email protected] for more information or to register your interest
