Welcome to 2016
The Cherry Blossoms have come and gone and that means Footy is back in full swing in Tokyo! Welcome back to all of our great supporters and sponsors as we head into the 2016 JAFL season as the reigning premiers! There is lots to mention so let's jump straight into it.
2015 JAFL PREMIERS
In a thrilling Grand Final your NAB Tokyo Goannas managed to lift themselves off the canvas and come back from a 20 point deficit in the final term to nab an unforgettable come from behind victory. The YCAC was at full capacity for the final and the celebrations seemingly went on well into winter! The victory was a fitting way to farewell a handful of the Goannas most faithful servants who have since moved on from Japan. What a way to go out!?
Training has seen great numbers and even better skills along the pristine riverbanks of Futakotamagawa. In an unprecedented move the Goannas Players have opted for SUNDAY MORNING TRAINING, forgoing the Saturday night ales for Sunday morning goals! If you would like to come down for a training run with the boys we are meeting at 11am on Sunday mornings at Futakotamagawa Station.
NED KELLY CUP
The Goannas will once again be facing off against the Nippon Gaelic Athletics Association in an International Rules match this coming Saturday April 23rd for the Ned Kelly Cup. The Match will begin at 4:15 at YC&AC, however the festivities are running from 11am and look set to go well into the evening. Make sure you get down to cheer on the boys in our final hit out before the season proper begins.
ANZAC DAY MEMORIAL
Our International Rules game will carry extra significance as the game is so close to the ANZAC Day. Aussie Rules on ANZAC Day continues to grow across Asia with multiple clubs part-taking in matches and events to honour those who served and paid the ultimate price in the region. Our match against the GAA will be played in the ANZAC Spirit. Many Goannas will travel back Yokohama, to the Hodogaya Commonwealth War Cemetery on ANZAC Day to again pay their respects to the ANZACS. The memorial begins at 9am sharp and is welcome to all.
2016 ROUND 1
The Goannas will be kicking off the JAFL Season against the much improved Shonan Poseidons. At this stage it looks as if we will be the final game of a JAFL Triple Header to be held out in the expanses of Akigase Park Rugby Ground in Saitama on Sunday May 8th with the bounce set for 3:50pm. We look forward to a big crowd as we begin our campaign to go Back to Back!
2016 OFFICIAL SEASON LAUNCH
The Goannas will officially launch our season the week following round 1 in our now annual HOBGOBLIN FOOTY FEST. Get along to the Roppongi Hobgoblin on Saturday May 14th as we present the jumpers to our new players and welcome the 2016 committee, sponsors, and supporters to join us on our journey this year! The BBQ will be fired up as is the custom and plenty of prizes and specials will be on hands for all!
