2016 JAFL GRAND FINAL PREVIEW

The heaters are on, the snow is falling (?!) and work Christmas parties are nearly in full-swing – it smells like JAFL Grand Final time! For the third year in a row, the Tokyo Goannas have made it to the last weekend in November as they attempt to go back-to-back following their premiership victory in 2015.

After a strong win against a determined Lions outfit in the semi-final, the Goannas come up against the spritely, hard running Senshu Powers who are looking to become the first university side to win the competition since the AFL Japan Top League was established in its current form.

The mid-season meeting between the two teams saw the Goannas sneak away with the win, but only by 9 points! The Powers have not lost a game since, so the boys will need to be at their best if they want to stop the opposition’s run and lift that premiership cup for the second year in a row.

A fractured wrist in the semi-final will see the Goannas go into the game without one of their stars, but their list runs deep and their team-first game plan has proven difficult to stop all season.

Head on down to YCAC this Saturday to support the Goannas and watch what is guaranteed to be a cracking game of Aussie Rules between the two best sides from this season!

The match kicks off from 17:20 and will be followed by a post-match function in the YCAC bar from 19:30. The Goannas have then organized buses (2,000 yen) for the team and all their supporters to head to their home bar in Roppongi, Hobgoblin for an after-party with beers, music and great people.

Be sure to get along to cheer on the boys in red and white! Can’t wait to see you all there!

Go ‘Annas!!

I'm not into sports before but I'm starting love it because of my job. I am an editor in our school newspaper and I love reading the sports article written by my colleagues. I've been dying to watch a match live with my friends. I hope it's not too late for me to enjoy the thrill of watching a match even though I'm not really familiar with the rules of the game. Looking forward to more of your game!
