Goannas at the Asian CupĀ 

The biggest Australian Rules football tournament ever held outside Australia which saw 10 teams (Japan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Jakarta, Bali, Vietnam, United Arab Emirates [Dubai]) from Asia and the Middle East in action on the plush grounds of suburban Bangkok. See news article http://www.footyaction.com/node/1077 The one day tournament featured non stop action from 8.30am in the morning and finished with the nail biting Grand Final late in the afternoon with the strong unit from Hong Kong taking the Championship over Bali with a squad of more then 50 players. The Japan Goannas put on spirited performances against last years Champs winner Singapore going down by 18 points in game 1 and then losing to the strong UAE Dubai Heat by about 2 goals in game 2. The Goannas were outmatched against the eventual winners Hong Kong in their 3rd game before putting on a strong performance in their last game crushing the Malaysian Warriors by more then 30 points. Australian Ambassador Bill Paterson presented the trophies to the winning players and team and popular Melbourne band, the Fauves entertained the crowd and this paved the way for a huge night of partying in downtown Bangkok – the crazy, any-goes, delicious 24 hour city.
