Quiz Night Report

Written by Michael Huberts

Quiz Night On a balmy night in May around 65 people packed into the Clubhouse in Shinjuku for the first (and hopefully) annual Trivia Night for the Tokyo Goannas. The night was an overwhelming success with the Club able to raise a bit of money to put towards the upcoming Asian Championships in Jakarta in August. With around 10 to 12 teams competing (there was some controversial M&A activity) the eventual standings (1,2,3 respectively) were CDS and D&D, The Cutty Sarks and The Bean Team. They were the proud recipients of some fine Hardys wine, Quicksilver clothing and (forgive the editorializing) a very strange little figurine with a watch for a face (possibly a pen holder?) courtesy of CDS recruiting. The questions were tough and there certainly were alot of them (it turned into quite a marathon) and thanks must go to the quizmasters (Michael Pubes Huberts and Ryann Thomas) for their efforts. In an effort to dissuade the usual cheats that might use their cell phone to find answers the questions were quite interactive (completing the chorus of songs, drawing country flags, recognizing famous tattoos, imagining funny answers to questions and matching the left-wing South American political leaders to their country using a map and glue to name a few). The quiz masters would like to thank Annmaree for her wonderful support in organizing the evening and, along with the beautiful Saeko Fukushima, for marking the questions on the night. In addition thanks should go to Smokin` Pete Hoskins for letting us hold the night at the Clubby and for arranging the tables to accommodate the swarming masses. All in all it was a great night and it was a good chance for the Goannas to have a good social function. Looking forward to next year`s quiz night.
